Command Description

Applies elevation attributes from imported GIS data to the lines associated with the attribute to create 3D linework suited to 3D modeling. Works well with ESRI Shape files.

Command Interface Description

The Elevate by Attribute command dialog looks as follows

Note: The command will only elevate lines that do not already have an elevation. If the imported lines have elevation 0.00 you will need to use the Change Elevation command to set all of the lines to elevation undefined or ? before running the command.

Elevation Attribute:
If you query the properties of the imported GIS data, for example from ESRI SHP files, you will see the list of attributes stored on the imported linework. Select the attribute that provides the required elevation values for the selected linework e.g. ALTITUDE in the video demonstration. The value that you enter here is not case sensitive so you can enter altitude, Altitude or ALTITUDE and all will work the same way.

Lines to Elevate:
Select the lines that have the attribute entered above that you wish to elevate.

User Tip:
If the source linework is 2D, you can change Display Options in the View Filer manager to display lines with no elevation in an alternate color e.g. Magenta. That way after running the command on the selected linework you will be able to see which lines were elevated using the provided attributes, and which lines may still be 2D lines.
