Is it possible to show cut volumes in red and fill volumes in blue when using smart text for a surface? I could have these as two separate pieces of text but wondering if there is a way to keep these grouped together and inherit these characteristics.

You should be able to use the embedded smart text formatting - use F2 in the text edit function to pull up Raw Mode and then use \C5; for blue and \C1; for Red in the smart text
\C1;Smart Text String for Cut\P\C5;Smart Text String for Fill
You have to be in Raw Mode to do this - see my post from Friday on this in plotting and Drafting section (Multi Line Text Formatting).
