Grid Volumes From Boundaries

Command Description
Computes the volumes between two selected surfaces and within multiple selected boundaries using the grid volume method. The computations are extremely fast, even with a small defined grid interval. This tool is ideal to rapidly compute volumes on projects as an interim step prior to final results using the TIN surface method.
The command has been updated to fully support the use of Reference Surfaces introduced in TBC v5.60.
*** ## Command Interface Description
The Grid Volumes From Boundaries command dialog looks as follows
Reference Surface:
Select the first of two surfaces that you wish to determine the volumes from. The surface list presented will include both local and reference surfaces.
Target Surface:
Select the first of two surfaces that you wish to determine the volumes from. The surface list presented will include both local and reference surfaces.
Boundaries:
Select the boundary lines that you want to use to subdivide the volumes.
Save computed grids checkbox:
Check this checkbox if you want to save the computed results in the current TBC project. The computed grids are stored in the Stored Measurements section of the project explorer and in the Stored Measurements section of the View Filter Manager. You can turn the grids that are created On and Off using the View Filter Manager.
Reference Alignment:
If you want to report the volumes for a corridor project, you can select an alignment here. The first station at which a boundary is encountered will be reported in the volume report. The last station at which a boundary is encountered,
Use alignment for direction checkbox:
This is not activated at this time.
Grid direction:
Enter the orientation that you wish to apply the grid for the volume calculations
Grid Size:
Enter the Grid Size that you want to use for the volume calculations. The smaller the grid size the more accurate and the closer the volume will be to a surface to surface volume computation carried out using TIN modeling techniques. Smaller grids will also track the selected boundary lines better.
File Name:
The process creates a .csv file of the results and opens it in an Excel spreadsheet. That file is stored in the project folder for the project. The report will look similar to that below computed with two boundary lines.
Results:
The results pane will briefly display the computed results before writing the results into the csv file. If you checked the “save computed grids checkbox” then you will see shaded grids that display Cut and Fill as Red and Blue grid squares respectively.
Apply
When you tap apply, the blocks will be placed and the command will ready itself for another selection set and repeat process execution. If you do not want to make a second selection and repeat the process tap Close to finish the process.
Close
Closes the command without further execution.
