Command Description

Compares a selection of points to a point cloud region or scan to determine the nearest scan point to the selected points, and provides a comparison between the derived point pairs. This is a useful tool to compare measured ground check points with computed point clouds from drone surveys to validate drone survey accuracy.

Command Interface Description

The Points to Cloud Report command dialog looks as follows

Points:
Select the points that you wish to compare with the point cloud data. You can use the Options button to access the usual TBC Selection options including Select by Layer, Select by elevation range, Advanced select etc.

Create points checkbox:
Check this checkbox if you wish to create 3D CAD points from the point cloud that are determined as the results from this process. If you check this checkbox you will be prompted for the layer on which you want to create the points and the point number for the first point to be created (which will initiate a point number sequence for all of the check points to be created).

Search tolerance:
Input a search distance tolerance for the comparison between the selected points and the point cloud. The process will scan the point cloud to find any points that fall within the search tolerance (radius around each of the selected points) and determine the points in the point cloud that are closest to the selected points. The coordinates, the distance (Delta XY), Delta Z and Direction of the vector between the selected points and the extracted point cloud points will be determined and reported.

Number of scan points to report:
Enter the number of points around each selected point that you wish to report. The more points that you report, the more checks you have on the accuracy of the point cloud compared to the truth or ground control points in the analysis.
